The Gift of Tongues
In this, the 2nd of this four part teaching series on: The Holy Spirit & His Gifts, we are discussing The 3 Vocal gifts (Gifts that say something).
The Gift of Tongues (Different Languages) is one of the 9 Gifts of The Holy Spirit listed in 1 Corinthians Ch 12. There is much confusion about this Gift so we will discuss it 1st!
The Gift of Tongues & Interpretation of Tongues are solely intended for Public Ministry *We are not discussing receiving The Baptism in The Holy Spirit or an individual believers personal Prayer language here (aka Praying in The Spirit). We have previously discussed in part 1 that every believer can pray in Tongues after receiving the Infilling or Baptism in The Holy Spirit by asking for Him after having received Christ.
1 Corinthians 12:4-11 Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. And there are differences of administrations, but the same Lord. And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in all. But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal. For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit; To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit; To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues: But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will.
The definition of Divers kinds of Tongues is: A supernatural utterance in an unknown Tongue (language).
Paul said that: God set in The Church diversities of Tongues (1Cor 12:28); we would not be out of line here in saying “different” kinds of Tongues. The utterance Gift of Tongues is an important gift because Tongues is the doorway into the realm of the supernatural. Of the 3 vocal gifts – Tongues is the most prominent. Paul gave prominence to tongues. One reason that Paul did this was that speaking in tongues was widely misunderstood in The Corinthian Church as it is today.
The gift of tongues in Administration: Administered as the Holy Spirit wills in a Public Service or Ministry gathering through an Individual that has received Christ, received The Baptism in The Holy Spirit, is living a Holy life & is submitted to the leading of The Holy Spirit.
The gift of tongues in Demonstration: A Born Again believer who has received The Baptism in The Holy Spirit will suddenly become very aware of The Holy Spirits desire to use them by His sudden presence in or on them. They will then allow The Holy Spirit to speak out through them a public Message in an unknown tongue (A Heavenly language) by giving voice to the unction or as many people refer to as “the anointing” that is coming upon them to accomplish the mission of bringing forth a two part word or message from God to a body of people that are gathered in a ministry setting. This utterance is two part because it is to be followed up by a timely interpretation of the tongue in the common language of the people who are present either through the original person used to give “The Message in tongues” or usually by another person present that is used in The gift of The Interpretation of tongues. The person giving the message & the person interpreting has total control of weather or not they wish to yield to The Holy Spirit. No one is ever forced to give a message in tongues, rather they allow the Holy Spirit to freely flow through them to accomplish the mission of bringing a personal message that is directly from God.
The gift of tongues in: Accomplishment: If the message is genuine; it will cause others in the room to acknowledge that it is a Sign & A Wonder from God. It should bring peace, love & joy plus encourage the believers that are present. If genuine it will convict those present who have not yet received Christ as savior of both Jesus’ & Gods reality as well as bring conviction to Sin by causing people to check their Spiritual condition. *Tongues & Interpretation of Tongues work together & are the only 2 gifts operating in the New Testament that did not operate in the old testament.
The Gift of Tongues is a Good Gift & is to be received Luke 11:9-13 And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you. For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened. If a son shall ask bread of any of you that is a father, will he give him a stone? Or if he ask a fish, will he for a fish give him a serpent? Or if he shall ask an egg, will he offer him a scorpion? If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?
The Gift of The Interpretation of Tongues
In this, the 2nd of this four part teaching series on: The Holy Spirit & His Gifts, we are discussing The 3 Vocal gifts (Gifts that say something).
In this next teaching we will discuss The Gift of the Interpretation of Tongues (Different Languages) which is one of the 9 Gifts of The Holy Spirit listed in 1 Corinthians Ch 12.
The definition of The Gift of The Interpretation of Tongues is: A supernatural showing forth of that which has been said in an unknown Tongue (language)
The gift of Interpretation of tongues in Administration is: Administered as the Holy Spirit wills in a Public Service or Ministry time through an Individual that has received Christ, received The Baptism in The Holy Spirit, is living a Holy life & is submitted to the leading of The Holy Spirit.
The gift of Interpretation of tongues in Demonstration is: A message in an unknown tongue has just been powerfully spoken out by a believer in a ministry setting. The person giving the message in tongues or usually, another believer suddenly becomes aware of The Holy Spirits desire to use them by His sudden presence coming on them. They then allow The Holy Spirit to speak out through them the Interpretation of the “Message that was previously given in tongues” by giving voice in the Known (common everyday) language & accomplish the mission of bringing forth the 2nd part – The Interpretation of the word or message from God in a timely, public manner, to a body of people that are gathered in a ministry setting. *My personal experience with this gift, as well as watching it in operation in others is that it eventually turns into the stand alone gift of Prophecy.
The gift of The Interpretation of tongues in Accomplishment is: If the message is genuine; its calling card (so to speak) will cause others in the room to acknowledge that it is a Sign & A Wonder from God. It should bring peace, love & joy plus encourage the believers that are present. If genuine it will convict those present who have not yet received Christ as savior of both Jesus’ & Gods reality as well as bring conviction to Sin by causing the people present to check their Spiritual condition. *Tongues & Interpretation of Tongues work together & are the only 2 gifts operating in the New Testament that did not operate in the old testament.
Interpretation of Tongues is a Good Gift & is to be received Luke 11:9-13 And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you.
The Gift of Prophecy
In this, the 2nd of this four part teaching series on: The Holy Spirit & His Gifts, we are discussing The 3 Vocal gifts (Gifts that say something).
In this next teaching we will discuss The Gift of Prophecy which is one of the 9 Gifts of The Holy Spirit listed in 1 Corinthians Ch 12 (It is the only vocal gift that does not require one of the other gifts to complete its function).
1 Corinthians 12:4-11 Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. And there are differences of administrations, but the same Lord. And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in all. But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal. For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit; To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing’s by the same Spirit; To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues: But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will.
The definition of The Gift of Prophecy: Supernatural utterance in a known Tongue (language); It denotes flowing forth or bubbling forth like a fountain.
(1Corinthians 14:3) But he that Prophesieth speaketh unto men to Edification and Exhortation and Comfort We see here in this verse that the simple gift of prophecy has no revelatory realm involved in the description of the gift. There is no revelation or foretelling involved it is simply speaking unto men to Edify, Exhort & Comfort. Many people mistake The simple gift of Prophecy for the office of Prophet. (The recognized Biblical standard for a new testament Prophet is: The person will have a stand alone ministry calling such as Pastor or Teacher and you will be able to see that 2 or more of the 3 gifts that reveal something plus the gift of Prophecy are operating in there life & ministry on a consistent basis). The Hebrew definition to prophecy means to Flow forth or bubble like a fountain. One of the interesting things about the gift of Prophecy is that everyone that has received Christ & the subsequent Baptism in The Holy Spirit (which all believers can receive upon asking for him) can Prophecy. Paul said in 1 Cor. 14:1,39 to desire Spiritual gifts, but especially that you may Prophesy. Prophecy is the most important gift of the three vocal gifts as it does not require one of the other 2 vocal gifts to complete it.
The gift of Prophecy in Administration: Administered as the Holy Spirit wills anywhere & anytime through someone that has received Christ, received The Baptism in The Holy Spirit, is living a Holy life, is submitted to the leading of The Holy Spirit & is in proper relationship with their Pastor & the local Church.
The gift of Prophecy in Demonstration: A Born Again believer who has received The Baptism in The Holy Spirit will be in a one on one situation or in a gathering of believers & will suddenly become aware of The Holy Spirits desire to use them by His sudden presence coming onto them. They typically will not know what they are going to say before they say it. They just feel an inner unction to speak forth & they allow the message being given to them to bubble out or flow forth as they give voice to the message. They allow The Holy Spirit to speak out through them to bring a message that edifies, exhorts & Comforts people in their common language. The person giving the message has total control of weather or not they wish to yield to The Holy Spirit. No one is ever forced to Prophecy rather they allow the Holy Spirit to freely flow through them to accomplish the mission of bringing an encouraging, edifying message to an Individual or a group.
The gift of Prophecy in Accomplishment: If the message being delivered is coming through the avenue of simple prophecy (not the 5 fold ministry calling of a Prophet) it will bring real encouragement & build up rather than tear down. The simple gift of Prophecy edifies, exhort & Comforts. It will bring peace, love & joy to the recipient or recipients that it is intended for. If coupled with any of the revelatory gifts it can become a very powerful ministry tool. If delivered with hatred, anger, manipulation, control or confusion it is either not from God or it is not being delivered through a person with a pure heart. Walk in love & gently correct the person delivering the message.
1 Co 13:2 – and if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing.
Prophecy is a Good Gift & is to be received Luke 11:9-13 And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you.
