Introduction to The Spiritual Gifts 1Cor 12:1-14
Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I would not have you ignorant. Ye know that ye were Gentiles, carried away unto these dumb idols, even as ye were led. Wherefore I give you to understand, that no man speaking by the Spirit of God calleth Jesus accursed: and that no man can say that Jesus is the Lord, but by the Holy Ghost. Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. And there are differences of administrations, but the same Lord. And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in all. But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal. For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit; To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit; To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues: But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will.
*Paul said by the Holy Spirit to the Church at Corinth, now concerning Spiritual Gifts I would not have you ignorant. God does not want you to be ignorant of the Gifts of The Holy Spirit that he has given to the Body of Christ. They are very effective & powerful when there is a proper understanding of their particular function, purpose & administration.
Gifts, Administrations and Operations
1Co 12:4-6 Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. And there are differences of administrations, but the same Lord. And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in all.
The Manifestation of The Spirit
1 Co 12:7 But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal.
*Notice Paul called the Gifts of the Spirit manifestations. He said… the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal. There is a distinction here that says the Gifts of the Spirit are not owned & operated by the Believer but rather are manifested through the believer as the Spirit of God wills in order to profit the local assembly or a body of believers.
Paul list nine Gifts of The Spirit that divide into three categories.
Three Utterance Gifts – Spiritual Gifts that say something:
Divers Kinds of Tongues, Interpretation of Tongues, Prophecy.
Three Revelation Gifts – Spiritual Gifts that reveal something:
The Word of Wisdom, The Word of Knowledge, The discerning of Spirits.
Three Power Gifts – Spiritual Gifts that do Something:
The Gift of Faith, The working of Miracles, The Gifts of Healings.
1 Cor 12:31 The Bible says to seek earnestly the Best Gifts! Of the three Gifts of Utterance The Gift of Prophecy is The best Gift because it is complete in & of itself & brings edification, encouragement & comfort to others. Of the three Gifts of Revelation, The Word of Wisdom is the best Gift because it brings supernatural revelation of the plans & purposes of God. Of the three Gifts of Power The Gift of Faith is the best Gift because of its supernatural ability to work a miracle.
